CUPOD® technology · three issued U.S. patents

A Sealed ClO₂ Generator.
Gas Out. Reagent Stays in.

The core is a sealed electrochemical pod. Sodium chlorite stays inside. Chlorine dioxide gas leaves through a hydrophobic membrane. How the gas is captured sets the research use.

Sodium chlorite reagent with proprietary additives. Proprietary internal gas-management design.

How the sealed pod works

The public version. Electrode area, recipes, and measured yields stay in the lab.

  1. Install a sealed pod
Sodium chlorite remains inside the pod. Process water does not enter it.

  2. Generate only while it runs
Electrolysis makes ClO₂ on demand. Stop the current and generation stops.

  3. Gas leaves. Chemistry stays.
A hydrophobic membrane lets gas out and holds the liquid in. Spent pods are disposable by design.

The gas train

  1. Sealed pod. Sealed reagent and electrolytic cell. Current is the on/off switch and the metering input.

  2. Conditioning. A dryer on a small sample side-stream, so liquid and condensate do not reach the sensor.

  3. Sensor. Optical ClO₂ concentration measurement on the side-stream, for a cycle record.

  4. Capture. Delivers the gas into a sealed, unoccupied bag or chamber.

Gas into a sealed bag or chamber

Architecture: a sealed bag-or-chamber system (US 12,359,324). During exposure, a pump recirculates gas between the generator and the sealed bag or chamber, which holds inanimate items or equipment. At the end of the cycle the enclosure is aerated: air is drawn through it, and the exhaust passes through a carbon filter, scrubber, or fume-hood exhaust so that chlorine dioxide is captured rather than released into the room. The enclosure is opened only after aeration to below 0.1 ppm. This describes gas handling only, not a performance claim.

Research use under evaluation: exposure cycles for inanimate items and equipment in a sealed, unoccupied bag or chamber, run only under the testing laboratory's own protocol and acceptance criteria. Prototype hardware, not a labeled item for sale.

Other capture paths are described in the issued patents.

Two pods, one chemistry

Centrifugal pods spin so the liquid stays off the membrane when the unit is moved. Stagnant pods sit upright and use gravity. Same rule on both: reagent in the pod, gas out. We do not publish spin speed, gap, current, or yield on this site.
